2 Arsal Residents Killed, 2 Others Injured in Separate Incidents
The cousins of the municipal chief of the northeastern border town of Arsal were allegedly killed on Monday in a raid carried out by Syrian helicopter gunships.
Youssef and Khaled al-Hujairi died in the attack on the outskirts of Arsal in Wadi Mira, media reports said.
But a security source told Voice of Lebanon (100.5) radio that the two men were killed in clashes in Syria.
The source denied that there was a helicopter raid on Arsal.
VDL (93.3) said Youssef and Khaled were killed when a chopper targeted a group of fighters in the area between the Syrian town of Qara and Arsal.
Other sources told Agence France Presse that the Lebanese men were killed in a mine blast in Syria, where they had planned to join the fight against the regime.
Arsal, which lies 12 kilometers from the border with Syria, has been used as a conduit for weapons and rebels to enter Syria, while also serving as a refuge for people fleeing the conflict.
The town is seeing a massive influx of refugees since last Friday as a result of the heavy fighting in the mountainous region of Qalamoun across the border in Syria.
Qara is the focal point of the Syrian regime's offensive against rebels along with the nearby towns of Rima and Nabak.
Also Monday, two brothers Qassem and Abdo Rayed were injured when assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on them in Arsal.
They were taken to the Bekaa Hospital in Chtaura, where they were in stable condition.

Lebanon should be relieved that Syria is cutting terrorist routes into the country. The last thing Lebanon needs is for terrorists to use Lebanon as a base further destabilizing an already bad situation.
