Report: Lassa Became a Hizbullah Military Base

W300

The predominantly Shiite town of Lassa in the Jbeil district has been transformed into a Hizbullah military base, informed sources told al-Joumhouria daily on Wednesday.

The sources said that the Shiite party dig tunnels, set up shelters in the town and installed cameras that would take photos of vehicles and drivers.

The region’s people consider Lassa a Hizbullah settlement particularly that the party’s secretary-general, Naim Qassem, hid in the town during the Israeli offensive on Lebanon in 2006, the sources said.

The town is also considered a link between the district of Baalbeck, which is mainly Shiite, and the district of Jbeil, they said, adding that Free Patriotic Movement MPs and Shiite lawmaker Abbas Hashem have set up a network of roads that link Hadath Baalbeck with the Jbeil district all the way to the coastal town of Amsheet without passing through any Christian village or town.

On Tuesday, a team from MTV was planning to shoot a news report in Lassa when Hizbullah fighters broke its cameras and prevented it from carrying out its task.

The director of political programs at the station Ghayyath Yazbek said that this was not the first time that a crew from MTV was being assaulted.

He said the network would not file a lawsuit against anyone but would wait for the state and security agencies to solve the issue.

Yeah, I figured that out in a post a week ago... Filthy thugs!

Default-user-icon Citizen (Guest) almost 13 years

...... yet another fact/proof that this party of "resistance" has ulterior motives. Where is the enemy? is it in Jbeil? In Beirut? In Bourj Abi Haider? In Tripoli? There is not a single lebanese security agency that can stop these thugs.... the one remaining, ISF Intelligence Bureau, is about to be raped and confiscated by the Mujaheedine. This is the resistance: resisting anything and everything that is State and its institutions. It is destroying what Lebanon stands for: freedom, democracy, free press, and peace of mind. History will not be kind to those who are participating in this sad masquerade.

How simple it is to write an article by backing up any information given with, "sources," or, "informed sources!" Lol, Naharnet is a joke!

@Someone, can you explain to us why this is happening in Lassa maybe?
why was the Church banned from surveying their land in the village?

Why was MTV crew attacked when they wanted to shoot a report from their? Is this the democracy you want to live in? Similar things happen in Dahyeh and all the Palestinian Camps, and all the areas control by Ahmad Jibril....

why?
why can't we be a normal nation, a normal country, a normal democracy?
before they used to blame it on Israel occupation of the South, now we blame it on the occupation of Mazare3 Shebaa...

I think it's time to draw a line and start building a country!

Lebanon is rapidly sinking into the abyss... It is safe to consider it a failed state and occupied by an armed organization similar to the Taliban and Al Qaeeda and eventually an outside military intervention will take place which will leave it in ruins and cause major mayhem... Just like what happened in Iraq, Lybia, Afghanistan... Deja vu...

Can we giv'em mowaten too?? By the way... I miss Le Phenicien...where is this clown?

Default-user-icon John 101 (Guest) almost 13 years

Look at the trend:

1. STL investigators go to Dahiya to question the OBGYN and they get beaten up by a group of people.

2. The UN enters a town in the South and the residents attack them

3. The maronite league goes to Lassa a group of people attack them

The same tactic used over and over by the same group for the same reasons. To retain power, information, etc.

It's about time HZB is taken care of.

This is reassuring because we now know that this piece of land is in safe hands and not up for sale as the Khawanas did with the rest of the country, until recently that is. Hey Khawanas, your party and Party are both over. We shall see you behind bars of hanging down from trees very soon. KHAWANAS.

Sinc 1982, the main objective of the Syrian with the help of Iran is to separate the shiite community from the state, geographically and politically. It began with the Da7yeh and continued to the south, then Baalbek and now Jbeil. The political separation is based on making Hezbollah independant on all the levels (military, financially...). Any follower who needs electricity, water, a phone line can refer to the Hezb and not to the state. And if he kills someone or steals a car, no problem, the Hezb will protect him. No need to any follower to pay electricity and water bills, neither to respect laws. This happens since 25 years. So how do you expect the new generation of young guys to consider the state other than a "third party" just good to request taxes? They removed from it the notion of republic and replaced it by the Hezb laws. They don't recognize Independance since they did not even participate in it. They even don't teach the Lebanese Hymn in their schools.

For those who know the area well and have a sense of military strategy, will understand exactly the reason why and if HZB deployed some land-to-air missiles there.

for those driven by religious sect instinct go get them if you can :)

I don't need sources to tell me that when on repeated occasions, citizens don't have access to their land or the army has no fly-zones, there's something wrong, be it tunnels or be it crap.
And I'm disgusted by the people defending these actions and later claiming to build a state.
You people are serving warlords.

P.s: And if you think that in order to further the debate, you'll resort to attacking your political opponents, feel free to do so, they're corrupted, but you my friends you've just sunk to a new low (so please stop pretending to be patriots, or reforming the system, you're just sleazier than your opponents.)

Default-user-icon rolfen (Guest) almost 13 years

@The Prophet
Lebanon is a failed state - but it will remain a failed state if external intervention will remove one group from power and put another one. The whole mainstream political class forms a corrupt system which is sucking the life out of the Lebanese people. So far external influence has only been used by one group against the other, and then where there is no "external influence" anymore, they shook hands, kiss cheeks, and proceed to draining the country - and blame "foreign influence" for previous trouble. The world has created a monster.

Thank you bigbig for admitting that the Hezb is out to control the Christian areas. After all if Lebanon is Muslim land and the Christians were imported, as Sayyed Hassan asserts, how can we blame the Hezb for taking back what's rightfully their and Lasa is a as good a place to start as any. Who's going to strand in their way not General Hassan Naiim Aoun as the Abbas Ibrahim debacle shows, speaking of which where are his Jbeil Mps clueless Walid Khoury, shifty Abbass Hashem and bowling ball head Simon Abi Ramia do they represent the people of Jbeil or the groundhog of Dahieh.

Hezbollah in Lassa ? no way ... Oh i forgot their great ally Michel Aoun, opened up the christians areas for them, people talk about Lassa, but i, from experience, saw many things in Faraya happen too, and was personally there when someone i know got beaten up by cowards coming out from 3 black jeeps, and later we mobilised lots of people but the cowards never came back. The worst part is that we got to know from which family name was the guy that brought them and was with them , and he is a chiite close to Hezbollah, and its not the first time they do this. General el 3azim opened up the country for them and all other traitors, and their pig leader in his sewers dining with mossad and cia, and brainwashing people like bigdig into thinking he is against the Zionists when he is truely their best ally. Good work Aounists keep on walking with general aoun.

I don't understand how a part of the Lebanese can pretend for the "national dialogue", "coexistance" and "equality between the Lebanese" while using a part of the land as a military base without the knowledge of the main responsible which is the State. Is Lassa at located in South? it is in the heart of the country and there are no excuses for military storage there. What kind of state do they want? they want it weak and submissive. What is happening in Lassa is an insult to all the sects and a proof of their politic of lies which is leading to a new civil war. Would they accept that the Future movement or the Lebanese forces make similar actions for the sake of any reason? Who told them that the majority of the Lebanese agree on such action? Anyhow, they lost their credibility since they killed Hariri and the other officials. They are back to their origin: terrorists and kidnappers as it was their mission in 1982 at their creation.

Here we go again! Memories of 1975. Did the road to Palestine change from Jounieh to Lassa? Does HZB resist Israel from Lassa Jbeil? Who are they fooling? Do we have a president or is he just a picture? What the hell is Aoun doing? How much did he get paid to sell Lebanon to Iran and HZB? What a traitor!!

Default-user-icon The Truth (Guest) almost 13 years

This reminds me of what Arafat said during the Lebanese civil war: the road to Palestine goes through Jounieh not Jerusalem... The road to resistance goes through Jbeil not Shebaa.

Interior Minister Charbel to MTV: Some areas are sensitive security-wise and remarks about submitting to the authority of the “mini-state” are incorrect. When the residents of the town of Lassa know that you are MTV staff, they will welcome you.

"Sensitive"..... what is so security sensitive in Lassa? and Sensitive to the Patriarchy? Give me a break and stop defending hizbullah and their illegal acts!

So in other words, any citizen going to a shiite area must first tell them who he is, what organization he belongs to, whether he sells potatoes or a journalist, then the shiites will welcome him. Barring that, they will kick his rear end. I see, now i get it Mr. Minister of Interior. I think you also in "Principle" for all Lebanese!

Ya ayni alayki wal sabbbaa. we sheeeeeeeir baddik tekli ya hanni. Hizbo now receives all the ailine manifests before you land in labanon your name is researched and if you are on their black list they will be waiting for you infront of the army check point and you will vanish. They have a moukhabarat dept more dangerous than the syrian one. They remind me of the packman game. They are eating lebanon little by little. The plot is now is out in the open . Israel promissed hizbo lebanon. The poor palestinians were used . No one is going to attack israel. Who is building more settlements and kicking palestinians out . aoun will be in asfourieh soon or hizbo will give him a one way ticket to hell. his mission is done and he is not needed anymore. I don't understand why news like that get so much feedback. Informed sources? Media cannot release reports based on informed sources or without facts.

I don't agree nor disagree with the report but please either base your judgement on something concrete, or don't post it! Anyway, as long as Lebanese media is controlled by political groups, there is nothing called freedom. It's sad to see this all happening in such a beautiful country. I guess the only thing Lebanese still have is the weather... Because they can't control it! The beach is sold, the lands are being bought by foreigners, the people are fighting each other and most intelligent people leave the country... And with all that, march 14 believe that lebanon's only problem r the arms! Really? What happened with jobs, education, electricity, food, .... I guess those who are saying this don't have the same problems as most Lebanese...Not very promising!

To the coward using my name and telling me to tone down, this is what your masters wish from you, to shut up and follow them, but free men like my self always stay polite but never tone down, i never crossed the line describing Hassouné, he is what he is, and what all free lebanese realise, a big pig, rotting 122 levels underground, dining with what he confessed party members who are spies for the Mossad and CIA, he didnt even deliver them to the authority, he is the true zionist agent , always working to divide the country and for Israel's interest keeping the palestinians away from its northern border, giving her the UN as well as a motive to never make peace since it doesnt need it cause its calm now. its a really funny circus what Aoun and Hassouni are offering us, i want to congratulate as well the Hezb for its divine victory 5 years ago, which caused 11 billion in debts, 2000 civilians, 700 fighters , damaged infrastructures and of course, 10000 new foreign soldiers on our soil.

If I may also add:
- When the FSI try do dismantle illegal constructions (yes hezb people) nearby the airport
- When the police is send in a small town in the soutf to stop an illegal construction.
- When reporters are abducted for filming those same illegal constructions...

Sad, sad country...
