Strong 6.4 Quake Shakes Japan's Fukushima

A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake shook northeast Japan's Fukushima prefecture, home to a crippled nuclear power plant, early Sunday, but there was no risk of tsunami, seismologists said.

Local police said they had no immediate reports of casualties or major damage from the tremor which hit at 3:54am (18:54 GMT Saturday).

The quake was centered around 100 kilometers south-southeast of Fukushima city, Japan Meteorological Agency and the US Geological Survey said, at a depth of about 40 kilometers.

It caused no new damage to the Fukushima Daiichi plant, which was crippled by a massive 9.0 quake and ensuing tsunami on March 11, public network NHK said, quoting the government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency.

The devastating March disaster left about 20,000 people dead or missing and triggered an atomic crisis at the nuclear plant.

Japan, located at the junction of four tectonic plates, experiences 20 percent of the strongest quakes recorded on Earth each year.

A few months ago, we had a stronger quake in Lebanon. This quake was so strong it threw an octopus of a mafia and its Christian Sunnis out on the street where they belong. In my view, they really belong behind bars or hanging down trees with ropes, these crooks, thieves, liars... But that's another story for another topic. Unlike other quakes though, this one was met with jubilation and disbelief. The decent Lebanese are still rejoicing, and will continue doing so now that Lebanon's Spring has finally arrived. The mafia in question is, of course, Mafia Hariri & Co., SARL. The aftershocks are still being felt by these losers. Better put them in straight jackets for fear that they will be banging against each other. In any case, their only bind was nothing but spit and a lot ship (if you know what I mean by replacing the p with a t).
