Iran Makes Official Protest to Lebanon over al-Mashnouq's Statement

W300

Iran's ambassador, Ghazanfar Roknabadi, said Friday that he delivered a letter to Lebanese authorities protesting a recent statement made by Interior Minister Nuhad al-Mashnouq against Tehran.

The diplomat told reporters after meeting Premier Tammam Salam at the Grand Serail that the official letter of protest was made over al-Mashnouq's remarks against Tehran's regime at the meeting of Arab Interior Ministers in Morocco.

“PM Salam confirmed to me that his (al-Mashnouq's) stance against the Islamic Republic does not express the position of the Lebanese government,” Roknabadi said.

Salam stressed that he is keen on “the best of ties” with Iran, he added.

A Baabda Palace statement said that Roknabadi also briefed President Michel Suleiman on the content of the letter that he delivered to the foreign ministry.

The statement quoted Suleiman as telling the diplomat that Lebanon stressed mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.

In his speech at the 31st Arab Interior Ministers conference held in Marrakesh on Wednesday, al-Mashnouq blamed Iran for the rise of terrorist activities in Lebanon.

“Despite the strong capabilities of the army and security forces, we have failed to” confront terrorism militarily, he said.

“The phenomenon of violence has its political and strategic reasons, resulting from the interference of Iran and Syria in Lebanon's internal affairs in the past three decades and more,” he said.

“The bloodshed in Syria and Lebanon rose because the Syrian regime is confronting a rebellion and Iran is facing major fateful challenges,” the minister added.

He also blamed Iran for the violence in Arab countries.

“The major part of this violence in several Arab states, including Lebanon, is the result of the unstable ties with Iran,” he said.

“This should compel politicians, foreign ministers, leaders of major parties and heads of state … to confront the challenge,” al-Mashnouq added.

Disappointed with Salam response. I understand he wants to survive hizbollah car assisination bomb trail, this is indeed the least Mashnooq could have said. Simply because for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It would be a matter of time before a car bomb blows Mashnooq and hizbollah will blame Israel.

Iran, have you forgotten that this is Lebanon? or maybe they made you get used to the idea that it will be an Iranian region someday? Wake up ya man, getting too close to us Lebanese is not a good thing, look at what happened in Syria. They used to be once a strong people, supposedly united, but sending so many of their soldiers to Lebanon, and their workers meant one thing, they got corrupted beyond repair, result? Same civil war in Syria, the cost of being so greedy. remember what Bachir Gemayel kept saying, "It's easy to swallow Lebanon, but impossible to digest it". leave us alone Mr. Roknabadi, you're getting too close, you don't want to taste the Syrian fate, do you? Yallah go away.

mowaten,
When mansour made statements representing the positions of the Governments of Syria and Iran (not Lebanon) you supported it.
If you read Baabda's reply carefully you will notice that it supports machnouq's statement.
So mowaten, if you want to expose hypocrisy in someone's position, a look in the mirror would be a good start.

Lebanese people why do you shun the only peple who have defended your country against Zionist aggression? Would you rather be friends with the zionists who kill Palestinians rather than the iranians when they have been the only country to support palestinian resistance? You trade brotherhood for this dunya and its luxury, i have no respect for that at all.

Southern stop this nonsence, if u r really from south lebanon u should know that in 60 and 70 it was civil defence (harass el chaabi) not a shiite millicia, in 1982 patriotic front of national resistance (not shiite millicia) hezbollah entered in war till 1986 with amal and was busy taking western journalist hostages... Then spend tome killing leftist and taking control over south lebanon, this shiite millicia was against sending army in south lebanon after 2000... (The rest of the story is not so long ago that u should remember...)

The veiled threat of terrorism and oppression at gunpoint coupled with 24/7 propaganda and indoctrination will no longer dissuade us from our dreams of freedom and democracy. You seem like a moral and God fearing person Mr. Roknabadi, please stop supporting a party that claims to be the Party of God on earth and instead of spreading his word they kill in his name.
