China's President Xi Jinping touched down in the Netherlands on Saturday for his first-ever Europe tour, as world leaders gathered to discuss the crisis in Ukraine and nuclear security next week.

Xi's plane landed at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport shortly after noon (1100 GMT) where he was to be welcomed by Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, Dutch news agency ANP reported.

The Chinese leader is to meet US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit in The Hague next week, before continuing his tour to France, Germany and Belgium.
