Larijani: Tribunal, Indictment Are Aimed at Striking Lebanese Stability

Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani said Monday that the international tribunal and the indictment in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s murder case were American projects aimed at striking stability in Lebanon.

Following talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus, Larijani said Lebanese political parties were capable of solving their problems without foreign assistance.

The Iranian speaker also described Lebanese Premier Saad Hariri’s visit to Tehran as “successful.”

Larijani also met overnight with exiled Hamas political chief Khaled Meshaal to discuss Palestinian issues, Hamas said on its website on Monday.

Their talks at Iran's embassy in Damascus focused on reconciliation between the Islamist Hamas and the secular Fatah party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as well as the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process, Hamas said.(Naharnet-AFP)
