Charbel Demands Geagea to Halt Escalating Lassa Dispute

W300

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Friday his meeting with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea was to stress the importance of calming down the situation in the town of Lassa in the Jbeil district.

Charbel told As Safir newspaper that he has asked Geagea to stop interfering in the issue of construction on church property in the predominately Shiite town after the state took charge of it.

He warned of transforming the Lassa dispute into a political issue.

The Minister noted that he had requested to meet Hizbullah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat.

Charbel remarked that he will exert efforts to convince Jumblat into accepting the proportional representation electoral law.

Asked about the current situation at Roumieh prison, he expected that the breakouts will not re-occur after enhancing security presence there.

Five Islamist militants from Fatah al-Islam had escaped in August. The army said it later arrested one of them.

Charbel urged officials to take the necessary measures to improve the inmates’ situation, try the detainees that haven’t been sentenced yet, and rehabilitate the prison.

Gaegae as well as any lebanese can and should express his opinion on any matter that happens in this country. You may call it interference, we call it democracy. But, people such as you Mr. Minister don't know what democracy is.

Instead of lashing out at Dr. Geagea maybe he should go after his THIEVING Allies, Hizbustan, who STOLE Church Property, still STEALING Electricity since the 70's, protecting criminals, killing March 14 members and behaving like a country within a country. When are we ever going to get rid of the CANCER called HIZBUSTAN and Allies ?

This guy is going from bad to worst..The best he coumd do is shut his mouth up and enforce the law on everyone.. I wish they had beaten up a shiite sheikh, and stolen some shiite properties. What would have been his attitude then?? From his attitude with the Antelias bombing, to his attitude with the Time magazine interview, he also got a Hizbollah chip grafted somewhere under the skull!

Marwan, wether you approve or not the role of the opposition in a democracy is to highlight a cabinet shortcomings, thanks to your inept government we can all witness how disfunctional your current cabinet that was anointed and sponsored from outside our borders. We should all be thankful to Dr Geagea for bringing the Lassa incedent to the public attention,if it were not for Lebanese Forces the incedent would have been swept under the carpet like the rest i:e kidnappings, explosions and many more.Dr Geagea I thank you for your sensible approach, you have proven time after time that you will not be detracted from what you always have believed in, a united Lebanon with no outside interference.Dr I salute you for keeping the dream alive for millions of Lebanese.

Bigdig, your idols next door call this type of situation "7alet el taware2" which basically gives them the right to ban and sanction anything they don't like. Is it this you are calling for?
Shameless people you are

He wants Geagea to shut up so he can settle Lassa issue the same way he's done with Antelias bombing. Can this looser tell us what happened with the investigation of Antelias?? Does that bombing was their first time? Can anybody beleive that a normal citizen can settle his financial issues by disposing a bomb in a public place and kill some innocents? Or he should be an experimented criminal with a full past?

In Other Word Mr Charbel was ordered by his employer Hassan Nasrallah to explain his visit to Me3rab .... The Minister knows that this land dispute was caused by sectarian monkeys occupying land that does not belong to them . But the sectarian monkeys belong to a sectarian armed militia of saints who beat up non turbaned clergy for fun . Mr Charbel is powerless to do anything about it so he has to give the impression of usefulness to please his sewer dwelling boss .
Smart move Mr Minister ...

Bigdig, freedom of speech does allow one to scream FIRE when in a crowded Movie theater, when the patrons life are in danger.and thats excatly what Dr Geagea is doing .The Dr would have no need to act if the incompetent public servant you cheer for are doing what's required of them.

bigdope
the hassans promised the patriarch that the building on church property will stop immediately until the issue of ownership is settled. But the cult of neanderthals hiding behind divinity tell lies even when they don't have too, lying cheating robbing is in their DNA. The ones preaching sectarianism are the chimps who beat up deacons just because they don't belong to their cult of saints and the ones defending them. The problem with the cult members is brain damage, medical professionals agree is caused by regular holiday celebrations consisting of smashing their own skull in with a blunt object.

Send the bastards Geagea back to jail. He was, is and shall remain a criminal until he is hanged to dry for his crimes against all of Lebanon, and especially the Christians. The criminal looks around him and sees that his life is nothing but a waste and a loss after a loss after a loss. He got so used to losing that he will continue with his habit of fermenting strife and hatred among the Lebanese. STOP HIM BEFORE HE IS ALLOWED ANOTHER CHANCE TO RE-DESTROY LEBANON AND ITS CHRISTIANS.

@ Bigdig and specially MR BRAIN, i mean you think Dr Geagea is just talking about the land dispute? what about the beating of security forces there? as well as a priest and almost beaten up another group of priests that were doing a survey , is that a '' normal '' land dispute? i thought that if it was the case, everybody has the right to check it ou and get the proof needed so they can gather it in a file to present to court, but seems some people only understand with sticks, knives , guns and threats, so this is what Dr Geagea is trying to say , their is land dispute everywhere in the world but it is not handled this way. this land is everybodys, and as long as it is , everybody has the right to do a survey, to cross it, to look at it, to rest in it ...

When we got news of the suspects in Hariri's murder , March 14th made it clear that we do not accuse all the chiite sect, but only hezbollah, but of course they tend to think they are all the chiite sect and that attacking them is attacking the chiites, MR BRAINS and MR BIGDIG , let me tell you something dear friends, in south Lebanon , long before you were born probably, more than 4 villages were entirely KATAEB, and mostly chiiites, as well as when the Israeli army entered n 82, all of you have thrown roses at them because you didnt want the PLO back in the south. All this excuse of Israel is just to keep your weapons because the only thing Hezbollah wants is LEBANON, nothing else, and they killed hariri, in coordination with the syrians, Hariri was more powerful than Bachar internationally as a sunnite leader, and the only threat to wilayat al faqih is the powerful sunni leader Hariri, and they thought they could get away with it like before with René, Bachir.

Default-user-icon Pacifier (Guest) over 12 years

They made a mistake and it backfired on them, is it too hard to see that the Israelis on the contrary would have never wanted to kill him, as he is way more moderate than other sunni leaders, he is respected worldwide, and he is a sane man, this is all they ask for in an ally, It is Hariri that brought all this investments to our country, and all arab investments, and stop saying arabs are dirty or we dont need them,, you are all hypocrites who work abroad and start insulting the hand that gives you food, yes we need them as mutual interests, but that doesnt mean we should bow to them, or anyone.

So MR BRAINS, before you put a picture of someone's brains, you might as well start the search for yours, as you are clueless of what is happening, they even put up mikati to take part of the sunnis with him from hariri so he would become weaker, but this didnt work too, mikati has burned and you will soon enough too, traitors infested by Mossad and CIA ,run by Irano-Syrian wanna be Resistance

@bigdig:

Thank you for attempting to teach me about democracy.... much appreciated. However, a person like you who is a die hard supporter of Hizb of thugs, Iran, and Syrian regimes should not even attempt to speak about democracy.

Default-user-icon pierre (Guest) over 12 years

Any person should speak freely about any issue they want. I am dissapointed with this ministers work. He wants to get this out of the public eye so he wont have to do anything bout the problem. He will probably setup a committe that will study the lasaa dispute for the next 100 years and they never come to a conclusion.

Default-user-icon Beiruti (Guest) over 12 years

Freedom of speech. Freedom to redress the government with grievances. These are basic rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which are in turn incorporated into the Lebanese Constitution. Mr. Charbel should be ashamed of himself for admonishing a political party leader from expressing his opinion and stating his grievance.

The town may be predominantly Shia, but the land on which the Shia were buidling belongs to the Maronite Patriarchy and therefore no one has a right to build on the property in violation of the property rights of the owner.

Does this mean that in a predominant Christian town, that Shia property rights may be equally disregarded? Or is mutuality trumped by the fact that the Shia are armed and the Christians not?

Shame on Charbel for enforcing the rights of the armed against the rights of the people to their free speech.

Default-user-icon Gabby (Guest) over 12 years

Ya Charbel you are exposing your traitorous ways. Your party has stabbed the Christians in the back for the last time. You are through. Assad is going down, and then you. Your actions will be stated loud and clear in the next election.
