Rocket Launched from South Lands in Lebanese Territory
A rocket was fired from southern Lebanon on Monday towards Israel, but missed its target and hit Lebanese territory instead.
"A rocket was fired a while ago from a region between al-Jormoq and al-Zafata (in the South),” the state-run National News Agency reported on Monday evening.
The NNA noted that the fired rocket landed at the outskirts of the southern village of Arnoun.
Monday's development in the South comes in light of the ongoing Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip, where over 1,850 people have been killed in 27 days of violence.
Since the eruption of the Gaza war, several rockets were launched towards Israel in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
On July 14, two rockets were fired from southern Lebanon towards Israel, drawing an Israeli retaliation.
Israel responded by firing several shells at the outskirts of al-Hinniyeh and al-Ezriyeh in Tyre district, amid overflights in the area by its military aircraft.
And on July 11, numerous rockets were fired on northern Israel from the outskirts of the town of Mari in Hasbaya, drawing retaliatory Israeli artillery fire.
The Lebanese army said that a number of militants fired three rockets against Israel.
Israeli military officials said they believed the rockets were fired by a small Palestinian group in an act of solidarity with militants from Gaza's Islamist Hamas movement.
They said it was unlikely the rockets were fired by Hizbullah.
And on July 13, unidentified men launched three rockets towards Israel from al-Qlayleh plain to the south of Tyre in southern Lebanon.
Israel responded with artillery fire targeting the firing points.
Israel had also filed a complaint to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which monitors the border between Lebanon and Israel.
