Chelsea Clinton Steps Down from TV Job

Chelsea Clinton announced Friday that she was stepping down from a part-time reporting job on U.S. television to focus on charity work as she prepares to give birth to her first child.

The former first daughter, 34, frequently tipped to follow her parents into politics, said she was leaving her position as NBC Special Correspondent in a message posted on Facebook and Twitter.

She also left the door open to future collaboration. "While my role with NBC News may be coming to an end, I look forward to working with the NBC family well into the future," she wrote.

Clinton began work as a special correspondent with NBC in 2011. Reports of her $600,000 salary sparked a backlash earlier this year, fueling complaints that it was over inflated and unfair.

Educated at Stanford, Columbia and Oxford Universities, she runs the Clinton Foundation with her parents Bill and Hillary.

She announced in April that her first child with investment banker husband Marc Mezvinsky would be born later this year.

Her mother is widely anticipated to launch a second bid to become the first woman president of the United States by contesting the 2016 Democrat nomination for the White House.
