W300

Police in the U.S. state of Michigan on Wednesday were investigating a car bomb explosion that seriously wounded three people, a local television station reported.

Detroit's WXYZ news said the car bomb was detonated at 5:41 pm (21:41 GMT) on Tuesday in the town of Monroe south of Detroit, seriously wounding a man and two minors.

It showed footage of the torched shell of a vehicle, with local police and federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) collecting evidence.

It quoted a Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy as saying that a criminal investigation had been launched and a press conference would be held later on Wednesday.

The sheriff's office could not immediately be reached for comment.
