Qahwaji Heads to U.S., to Request Weapons for Army
Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji is expected to travel to the United States on Monday where he is scheduled to hold talks with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey, reported the daily An Nahar on Saturday.
A prominent military source told the daily that the visit is aimed at “requesting military support for the Lebanese army, as well as providing it with weapons and logistic equipment.”
No conditions have been set over the Lebanese army regarding the members of the delegation heading to the United States or the visit’s agenda, added the source.
U.S. Ambassador Maura Connelly had reiterated on Tuesday that the Obama administration expects from Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces to fulfill their commitment to implement U.N. Security Council resolution 1701, the U.S. embassy said in a statement.
During talks with Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn, the ambassador repeated the U.S. government’s support for and assistance to the Lebanese army.
The embassy said Connelly and Ghosn discussed Qahwaji’s upcoming visit to the U.S. at the invitation of Dempsey, a further indication of the strong partnership between the U.S. and Lebanon.

A couple of months ago, a couple of Lebanese army generals went to DC asking for handouts, one of them was rumored that he would be given the interior ministry in the current cabinet at the time since he was a young aide to the senile Aoun back in 89. According to reliable sources went to DC reluctantly and came back empty handed because he knew that it was a waste of time. Now we have this genius going there for the same reason. When Elias Murr was defense minister, he asked Uncle Sam for attack helicopters and sophisticated missiles. They told him that he could not afford the cost of $40k per missile and he made a fool out of himself. Uncle Sam will only allow transfer of old "Hummers" and transportation vehicles and trucks and maybe a few half century old Huey Choppers stripped of armaments just like the choppers the army got from the Gul states. As long as you have "a terror group" running the govt, don't expect to be given an air rifle pal...

Waste of time. They might through some scrap m16 bullets at you but nothing of real substance will ever come from the u.s. Because their Israeli lobby controlled congress will not allow any arms that could trouble Israel.
