Mustaqbal Official: Those Seeking to Abolish the Tribunal Reject a Solution

An official from the Mustaqbal movement accused March 8 forces of rejecting a solution to the Lebanese crisis by seeking to end the operations of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

"Those who want to abolish the international tribunal through the Saudi-Syrian initiative are not seeking a solution and not making an effort to meet us midway through," the official told pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat in remarks published Monday.

He reiterated remarks made by March 14 officials that "the court was established by a Lebanese demand and an Arab and international will to seek the truth and achieve justice" in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri's assassination case.

"Consequently, the justice that we waited for so long won't be a subject of a compromise," the source stressed.

The official told Asharq al-Awsat that the Saudi-Syrian initiative will stress the important role that the tribunal is playing away from political influence and will seek to preserve Lebanon's stability in the aftermath of the release of the indictment.
