Berri Seeks to Re-launch Dialogue, Urges Officials Not to Interfere in Syria

Speaker Nabih Berri is expected to meet President Michel Suleiman before the end of this week to discuss with him the possibility of resuming dialogue between the Lebanese foes.

Berri said in comments to As Safir newspaper published on Monday that he will discuss with Suleiman the chances of resuming the national dialogue, to inquire him about the reasons that are preventing the launching of the all-party talks.

He expressed belief that Prime Minister Najib Miqati, Hizbullah, Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat have agreed on resuming the dialogue.

However, he said “the issue depends on the position of the March 14 forces, especially al-Mustaqbal movement.”

Berri said he was ready to discuss the matter with al-Mustaqbal bloc leader ex-PM Fouad Saniora, “if my meeting with the president established a solid ground to begin from.”

The speaker stressed that “the dialogue should resume without any previous conditions.”

Asked about the topics that will be tackled if the all-party talks resumed, Berri said that the most critical issue is how to safeguard Lebanon amid the developments in the region.

He noted that Lebanese officials should not meddle in the Syrian situation.

“If some (officials) don’t want to comply with the conventions and treaties that established the special relations, the best solution is not to interfere in the Syrian situation and disavow Lebanon from any repercussions,” Berri said.

Sure, don't interfere in Syria's business, but the criminals can surely rule us with an iron fist. You hypocrite.

Time for a real resistance and honest politicians.

instead of wasting their time on so called dialogue, which will end on nothing, they d better try and unite to tackle the REAL issues of this country!!!

electricity= a tiny little country like this cannot have 24/7 electricity!
environment = cancer growth because of pollution; lebanon has become garbage can which no politcian seems to care about!!!
air pollution, landfills pollution water pollution and so on...

some courageous associations try to ring the alarm on this pb but our irresponsible politicians don t care about it because it doesn t pay!

salaries, cost of living, anarchic price raises, anarchic urbanization, destruction of traditional neighborhoods, total disrespect of road laws and so on....

so keep on praising these irresponsible people and supporting them , we have the country we deserve, full of sh... like them!!!!

The Shia do what every the want and are making a mess of things. Pay your electric bill instead of bankrupting the country, fund the court, stop sending shabiha to Syria and lying that you are not, and get rid of your weapons.

Stop lying and start paying.
