Berri Says Cabinet, Parliament Paralysis is a 'Myth'

W300

Speaker Nabih Berri has reiterated that the cabinet should convene to resolve the people's issues, describing the paralysis of the government and the parliament as a “myth.”

Berri told his visitors that the national dialogue, which he is chairing, has not discussed the issues that are on the cabinet's agenda, except for the waste crisis.

“The government should resolve the people's affairs and should resume its meetings because obstructing it and the parliament is a myth,” he said.

The speaker stressed that the postponement of the dialogue to October 26 did not come as a result of differences between the rival leaders.

“The conferees have so far held seven sessions, which all focused on the presidential deadlock, except for once when they discussed the waste crisis,” he said.

Berri confirmed that the upcoming sessions will be moved from the parliament to Ain el-Tineh.

He said that he has received from the majority of the rival leaders documents describing the characteristics of the next president.

There are only two officials who haven't yet submitted their documents, the speaker told his visitors.

He said he will study the files and try to find common ground.

Lebanon has been without a head of state since President Michel Suleiman's six-year term ended in May last year.

The Baabda Palace vacuum has caused the parliament's paralysis and huge differences among cabinet members.

This country is hijacked by incompetent people ,disconnected from the real world and the people, they are isolated in ivory towers surrounded by their private armies preaching outdated and expired visions. And the biggest joke is they are looking for solution while they are the cause of the Lebanese problems.

A Lebanon free of foreign influence in a myth at this point. Why is the majority too cowardly to amid Lebanon is nothing but a proxy war between KSA and Iran?

More violations of the constitutions by the militia head and his allies. It is like being in school and the teacher asks you to submit a paper about your feelings and expectations of the new school year. Enough of this heresy.... do your job and elect a president.

This norm of having diagonally opposed parties share in the same cabinet has proven time after time its complete and utter failure. That is the reason you have elections: you have winners who govern and losers who form the opposition. Unfortunately in Lebanon, if HA is in the opposition it does not behave like a civilized opposition. Under the threat of arms, it will change things on the ground.

Sure the government is not paralyzed! There is no meeting of Parliament, there is no President and the Council of Ministers no longer meets, instead there is this "Dialogue" construct where the feudal leaders meet not at the Serail or Baabda or Najme Square, but at Berri's house. The old system of the Ziam and feudalism is alive and well. The state could not stamp it out and Berri seeks to be the Ziam of the Ziam. Everyone come to him. All solutions pass before him. This is not "government" its is regression back away from civil society to feudalism.

It's sickening to hear this guy speak like he is a king or medieval ruler.
Maybe we need new, honest elections and throw everybody out.
I wished the army would stage a coup, arrest all these people and demand elections.
