Feltman Warns of Harsh Measures if Lebanon Doesn’t Fund STL

W300

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman warned of “consequences” on the U.S.-Lebanese bilateral ties if Beirut refused to fund the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

Feltman told al-Arabiya satellite TV network that Washington will have to take harsh measures if the Lebanese failed to pay their share to the STL that is set to try ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s suspected assassins.

Feltman said that failure to fund the court will reflect negatively on the situation in Lebanon.

The Lebanese government should abide by its commitments because it is a member of the U.N. Security Council and because the international tribunal was established by a Council resolution at Lebanon's request, he added.

lebanon like recalled asked for the tribunal, and ALL parties accepted it. so, no matter what lebanon must abide, like it or not...

and the gvt is going to pay , just wait and see... your leaders are just complaining to please their supporters but will finally come with a nice and good excuse to pay...

It's about time the murderers know they cannot keep farting around. After having murdered sOme of their most prominent opponents, having pushed their way into power through blackmail, extorsion, threats, and deception, they think they can just get on with their daily business as though nothing had happened! They can only wait, soon they'll be handcuffed and thrown into a jail dump , that's assuming they don't end up hanging from a rope under some field popular act of revenge...

What it means is financial bullying and blackmail. The U.S. has sunk to a new level thanks to it's servitude to the pro-Israeli lobby... They've done it with UNESCO and they'll do it to Lebanon. They have no shame.

Has anyone ready his latest book yet? It's a real gem of a best seller. It's called "From American Diplomat to Pro-Israeli Lobby Bootlicker: The Unspoken Truth about Getting Ahead at the U.S. State Department"

Peace...Yes it is an internal manner. It is ONLY up to Lebanon to make that decision. Let Israel and Feltman's Israeli occupied USA follow international resolutions.

"Marie" wants to be another Antoine Lahd. I do not know where you live, but if you are in Lebanon (I doubt it), I would leave soon to live next to him.

Maybe the "consequences" he is talking about is that the US will become a member of the international court or will sign the treaty to ban landmines.

well done guys, marie is correct

Arogan..."marie is calling for the Zionist thug Feltman to launch a war against Lebanon. What do you call that? I am only aware of the SLA (hiding in Israel) who has called for an attack against Lebanon. Read, before you comment.

Arogan "anti-Israeli regimes are fallen one after another" What? Who do you mean Mubarek or the Tunisian regime? Gadafi has been embrased by the west since 2003 after he surrendered to the west by giving up his nuclear program. The UK released the Libyan bomber suspect because of the good relations with the west and to buy Libyan oil. I do not support the Iranian or the lousy baath regime (you support the lousy Arab American puppet dictators and their allies M14). But, one thing I have to say as an independent Leftist...M8 is dealing with reality a lot more than M8.

Meant more than M14

There is a large consensus in Lebanon that US should apply the appropriate treatment to Assad Gang & Fundamentalist Shia militia operating in Lebanon : Gun and powder. Even Israel is coming to admit that Assad Gang & Fundamentalist Shia militia in Lebanon are no more useful nor necessary to its interests, in spite of their claiming that Assad Gang's survival=Israel's Security. An equation which is dead for real. So US should start Gun and powder treatment. the sooner the better.

peace....first of all I do not support aoun or any current leaders of M8. As far as changing political alliances ...Hariri was installed by the Syrian Mukhabarat...Junblat has changed his stands several times. As far as supporting the American Zionists ...I praise those who have come to their senses...I do not criticize them.
