Report: Geagea-Aoun Meeting Under Preparation

W300

Successive contacts are taking place between leaderships of the Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movement to arrange for a meeting between the parties' heads, which reports say are to focus on the presidential elections, An Nahar daily reported on Thursday.

The meeting between LF chief Samir Geagea and ex-chief of the FPM MP Michel Aoun is set to take place at Maarab, added the daily.

It said that Geagea is likely to support the nomination of Aoun if a session is scheduled to elect Marada leader MP Suleiman Franjieh as president.

Geagea would prefer Aoun over Franjieh for the position of president, said the daily, because the two men "have something in common and have earlier signed a Declaration of Intentions as a political understanding to ease tensions on the Christian and national scenes."

Both Geagea and Aoun are candidates for the presidency. Their rivalry, in addition to other issues, have left Baabda Palace vacant since President Michel Suleiman's six-year tenure ended in May 2014.

An initiative emerged lately by Mustaqbal Movement leader MP Saad Hariri suggesting the nomination of Franjieh for the presidency.

The nomination has been met with reservations from the Kataeb Party, the FPM, and LF.

Nothing would please me more than a full reconciliation between these two. Respect to Geagea if he decides to vote for Aoun who afterall historically has had lebanese interest closer to heart that Franjieh who used to run with the syrians even during the years of occupation. Having said that I believe that Geagea would be a great president for Lebanon also, given the chance. Maybe next time...

It's terrible how those Iranian implants forced Aoun to do their bidding. They keep his loved ones at sniper point if he says one wrong thing. Christians need to unite and not be forced to sides. The essence of Lebanon itself will die with foreign interference. How many more have to suffer at the hands of these abusers?

Enough already, Lebanon needs outside help with this problem. I bet Trump would do nicely.

They are the only ones who are capable of solving this presidential crisis. I wish they would agree on a candidate to help Lebanon recover instead of waiting for a regional agreement, which will not happen anytime soon. In fact the Christian parties could play a vital role in for Lebanon to become neutral in this useless Sunni-Shiite conflict. Are they capable of agreeing ? I don't think so but hope dies last.

I would vote for Salameh anytime. I am shocked his name is not being mentioned why because he is the smartest of them all?

I think Aoun will be a good President, He's a little irrational, and so, not too predictable, he does have Lebanon's interested at heart, and if LF endorse his nomination, then, this will give Hezbollah no reason to delay further the election of a President. The only gripe I have with this whole affair is why do they have to agree to a president beforehand - isn't it supposed to be an election? Is the parliaments only job to rubber stamps the chosen one who is picked by foreign powers??? Pity the nation...

m. aoun pensait que c'etait lui qui bloquait les elections, il n'avait rien compris. maintenant ils sont deux a penser de les debloquer et ils n'ont pas encore compris. j'espere de me tromper mais je crois que ca va etre saboter.
