Lebanon’s Rida Antar Chosen Best Player by Goal.com

Lebanon’s midfielder Rida Antar who inspired the country’s historic victory against South Korea during the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers was chosen as Goal.com’s player of the week.

The website recognized the player for his role in the victory, a first by Lebanon against the Asian nation.

Antar, who plays for Shandong Luneng, played an integral role in Lebanon’s first goal against South Korea, which was eventually scored by Ali al-Saadi.

Lebanon won the match 2-1, sparking euphoric scenes throughout the country.

The Lebanese football team later met with the government, with each player being granted a LL 10 million award for their efforts.

The match was also attended by President Michel Suleiman in a show of support for Lebanon in its mammoth task against South Korea.

Antar and the rest of the team’s effort have edged them closer towards qualifying to the last round of qualifications before the World Cup finals.

Lebanon is scheduled to play the United Arab Emirates in its final game on February 29.
