Atletico Striker Falcao Out of Madrid Derby

Atletico Madrid coach Gregorio Manzano says injured striker Radamel Falcao hasn't recovered in time to play in Saturday's Spanish league derby against Real Madrid.

Atletico was hopeful the €47 million-signing ($67 million) would recover from a leg muscle tear to play at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, but Manzano ruled out the Colombian international on Friday.

Manzano says "he is not 100 percent and it's not worth the unnecessary risk when there is so much season ahead of us."

Falcao has scored eight goals in all competitions.

Defenders Antonio Lopez and Silvio, and midfielder Tiago are also out because of injury.

Ninth-place Atletico trails Spanish leader Madrid by 15 points and hasn't beaten its crosstown rival in 12 years, a run of 21 games.
