Prime Minister Najib Miqati stated on Sunday that Lebanon is part of the international community and it therefore “cannot be selective in implementing its resolutions.”

He told Vatican radio during his ongoing trip to the European state: “We are committed to justice because it is a central way to find out the truth in the assassinations and crimes that have taken place in Lebanon.”

In addition, he revealed that the funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon will be placed on cabinet’s agenda during its meeting next week.

“I hope the ministers will assume their responsibilities regarding this issue,” the premier stressed.

Miqati announced that he is scheduled to meet with Pope Benedict XVI on Monday, saying that he will assert the Lebanese people’s commitment to mutual coexistence despite the dangers lurking against Lebanon.

“We will stress that Lebanon will remain an example for confronting hardships and that Christians have always been a main factor in bolstering democracy and freedom,” he continued.

The prime minister arrived in the Vatican on Saturday where a dinner banquet was thrown in his honor by the Lebanese Maronite Order.
