Israeli Espionage Device in the South Raises Fear over Violations

Hizbullah’s announcement on Friday that it had foiled an attempt by Israel to spy on its telecom network that was installed between two southern towns, raised questions on how Israel succeeded in its operation, the Central News Agency reported.

Security sources told the news agency on Saturday that the “war between Israel and Hizbullah became electronic.”

“The danger in the Israeli violation is that it happened deep in the south, which raises questions on how Israel was able to install the spying device,” the sources added.

They said that “no civilian members would have been able to install (such devices).”

The source wondered if Israeli technicians were able to install it. “The towns of Srifa and Deirkifa are close to the French UNIFIL contingent headquarters.”

The news agency reported that Hizbullah is still cordoning off the area until the completion of collecting the device’s fragments.

On Friday Al-Manar Television said that Israel bombed an espionage facility that has been exposed. According to the report, an Israeli aerial combat plane launched a strike on the equipment after it became evident it has been uncovered.

Two weeks ago, an explosion was heard in the southern town of Siddiqin.

Some media reports speculated that it may have taken place at a Hizbullah arms depot.

The party denied the claims.
