Qahwaji Vows to Safeguard New Presidential Tenure, Protect Parliamentary Vote
Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji on Friday pledged to safeguard the presidential tenure of President Michel Aoun and to protect the upcoming parliamentary elections.
“The army units' top missions for the coming period are defending the country against the Israeli enemy's threats, combating terrorism and preserving security and stability in the country,” Qahwaji said during a meeting the army's top officers.
“The election of General Michel Aoun as President, the formation of a government and the resumption of parliament's legislative role have led to boosting stability in the country,” Qahwaji noted.
He also vowed that “the army will exert the utmost security efforts to safeguard the presidential tenure and achieve its aspirations, especially in terms of protecting the upcoming parliamentary elections.”
