Syrian Troops Counter-Attack after Damascus Rebel Incursion, Hizbullah Says

W300

Syrian government forces launched a counter-attack against rebels in Damascus on Tuesday, following a rebel suicide car bombing and another insurgent assault earlier in the day in the country's capital, media reports said.

It was the second attempt by rebels in three days to penetrate Damascus' defenses.

Rebels have been trying for years to break into the heart of Damascus, at times in conjunction with al-Qaida-linked militants. Al-Qaida-affiliated suicide bombers have been targeting government security installations since the early days of the conflict.

Early on Tuesday, Syrian rebels detonated a car bomb in an eastern neighborhood of Damascus and launched a renewed attack from the city's opposition-held Jobar neighborhood, according to the Hizbullah group. There were no immediate reports on casualty numbers in those attacks.

Hizbullah is heavily invested in defending Syrian President Bashar Assad in his country's civil war. Its military media arm said fighting was underway Tuesday in Jobar, which Syrian government forces had held under siege since 2013.

Syrian state media later said the military responded with airstrikes and artillery fire and that government forces repelled the attack.

Sounds of blasts and artillery fire shook Damascus, and smoke clouded the skies over the eastern Jobar and Qaboun neighborhoods, where fighting had also broken out on Sunday.

Syria's SANA news agency said government forces encircled the "terrorist groups." It said 15 people were wounded in shelling across the capital.

A rebel blitz spearheaded by Syria's al-Qaida branch shook the eastern parts of Damascus on Sunday, with fighters managing to seize a neighborhood before pro-government forces pushed them back on Monday. It was the most serious insurgent incursion into Damascus since 2012.

The insurgent gains in Damascus, though short-lived, come against the backdrop of months of steady rebel losses to government forces across Syria. It appeared to be an attempt by al-Qaida's affiliate to mount sophisticated attacks against high-value targets to portray itself as the main force capable of fighting the government.

According to aoun, hezbollah's weapons are necessary to defend Lebanon..... in Damascus;)

If we don't take the fight to them, they take it to us. There are plenty of people like you in Lebanon who would willingly join a Salafist takeover of Lebanon, while excusing it with fighting Hezbollah.

Christians and other minorities will be exterminated by your Salafist friends as well, just as we saw in Iraq.

But Israel could use the same logic with Ebola in Lebanon Megahabil... and yet you talk about occupation....

"If we don't take the fight to them, they take it to us."

so when you take the fight to them, kill them, massacre them, destroy their cities you are fighting terrorism. But when they bring the fight to you and your dahieh, they are terrorists;)

Let me guess again, that is the logic of a heretic follower of wilayat al faqih.

Israel considers you a threat to peace and civilization so does most of the world. When they take the fight to you, you sit and whine and talk about the zionist aggression. But who said heretics have logic..

Thumb gigahabib 7 years

Lol, so how is Hezbollah a threat to he world? Last time, it was followers of the Wahhabi cult who have been creating mayhem all over the world for the last few decades. But I guess it's all just a conspiracy to make you look bad, right?

No reason to explain to Israeli salafis.

They are the enemy.

galaxy has no problem believing that 270 US military bases around the world, and thousands of US soldiers meddling in wars all over the middle east and africa is necessary to safeguard the security of the US. somehow this seems logical and justified to him

however as much as he struggle with his two neurons, he cannot understand why hezbollah preventing the head chopper and liver eaters from taking power 20kms away in damascus has an impact on lebanese security. sometimes i wonder if euthanasia wouldnt be the most merciful outcome for him.

nevermind however, while galaxy thinks hard over it, his friends will be busy getting crushed like dog litter on the sidewalks

there are plenty of heretics like you who are part of a fantantical iranian terror group who claim to be fighting terrorism but in reality are avenging the death of a shadowy figure allegedly murdered centuries ago.

Thumb gigahabib 7 years

Even if that was the case, when were they a threat to the entire world, like Wahhabism has proven to be?

"gigahabib :
Who says I'm Shia?"

Read it slowly, genius: "even if that was the case".

Wow... I can't handle how clever that remark was.

It wasn't supposed to be clever, it was supposed to help a poor Mongoloid to comprehend my post.
