Man Held for Hacking Social Media Accounts

The Internal Security Forces arrested 21-year old Syrian national who hacked into several social media accounts and threatened their users of sharing their photos, the ISF said in a statement on Saturday.

“Information was obtained by the Cybercrime and Intellectual Property Bureau about an unknown person having hacked electronic accounts on social networking sites, stealing information about their owners, communicating with them and threatening to publish their photographs and videos and extort them financially,” said the statement.

The Bureau was able to identify the suspect and arrested him on 9/1/2018 in Beirut's

Sabra and Shatila neighborhoods.

He was arrested while receiving money for his fraudulent operations.

He admitted during investigations that he had attempted to hack about 350 electronic accounts, effectively hacking 50 of them.
