Families of Islamist Detainees Protest in Tripoli Demanding Amnesty

W300

Families of Islamist detainees in Roumieh prison protested on Friday against the government’s delay in signing an amnesty law and demanding the inclusion of their family members in the bill, the National News Agency said.

The protesters blocked the road near the Grand Serail in the northern city of Tripoli as security forces upped their measures there and near al-Nour Square.

President Michel Aoun had pledged the families of Army martyrs on Wednesday that he will not grant amnesty to those who were involved in the killing of soldiers.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri also announced that the amnesty will include individuals who were not involved in the killings in the Sidon suburb of Abra and Tripoli between the army and Islamist supporters.

The government is weighing a general amnesty expected to come ahead of the country's first parliamentary elections in ten years.

The elections are scheduled for May. Lebanon had one general amnesty after the end of the civil war in 1990.

"The government is weighing a general amnesty expected to come ahead of the country's first parliamentary elections in ten years."

and that includes at least 48,000 wanted criminals in the Bekaa alone let alone those already convicted.

You better make up your mind, so you will keep your claim that these salafis detained, are moderate rebels?

Do you have any proof that these Salafis are "freedom" fighters and not Caliphate seekers?

were those two dead iranian shia terrorists in your avatar "freedom fighters" and not "wilayat al fakih" seekers?

rofl! where is the correlation between what @exfpm wrote and your reply???

The article is about Lebanese Islamists not Syrian rebels:) Many of these people have been detained for over 25 years without charges.

Educate yourself Mystic; you desperately need it.

What is the definition of Syrian rebel? Many of the salafis that fought in Syria came from Tripoli aswell.

The fact is, that some people wants to release them.
I think you're those people, just like Rifi you want those Salafis to roam freely in Lebanon.

Another irrelevant answer;) So, only you shias are allowed to fight in Syria!

If they broke the law, fine. But most of these people were framed and many have been held for years without charges or confessed like Ziad Itani 'confessed'. The law in this country is fabricated, the security agencies are corrupt from top to bottom, the judiciary is a joke.
