Abi Khalil Says Govt Incurred Huge 'Losses' because of Mistaken Decisions
Energy Minister Cesar Abi Khalil presented at a press conference on Friday the technical terms of conditions for the project of importing liquefied natural gas to Lebanon.
Abi Khalil said the plan to import LNG vessels to Lebanon “has been delayed since 2010, resulting in government losses of around $27 billion due to the “agendas” of some, and previous mistaken decisions.”
He added saying that “96 companies have withdrawn the books of conditions, while 13 international coalitions have qualified to bid.”
He concluded saying: “We bear the project to build the State and implement the law.”

Regarding LNG vessels or leasing ships (instead of buying) to generate power, UAE signed a contract with Masdar to generate power from PV and renewable for 2.4 cents a KW, and Saudi is about to sign a PV contract for 1.8 cents a KW, while Lebanon is paying six times this amount for polluting ships with huge paybacks for corrupt politicians. Beside power, Elon Musk's Boring Company & Hyperloop are perfect for Lebanon. Boring can create dedicated leveled tunnels between coast and Bekaa/Syria for trucks and buses to improve mobility and safety as well as provide huge economic boost to transit (rebuilding Syria) and reducing agricultural shipping cost, gas consumption, and travel time while improving environment. Hyperloop is a perfect solution for fast and efficient transport in congested areas and where land is expensive (Dubai is building a test track & system is more appropriate in Lebanon to solve congestion). Lebanon can never regain its regional relevance for multinationals without solving transport (multiple airports and freeways), infrastructure, internet (100% fiber cover like S Korea) and communication (5G). Also prioritizing transparency and accountability by streamlining and digitizing all government processes and permitting steps so startups can take off to empower the capable youth and transform the region

Correction, his boss is Bassil. Even at the Energy Ministry. Bassil never relinquished the post he still considers himself Energy Minister and all commissions and bribes go through him first. Cesar, who was his's adviser at the Energy ministry back when Bassil was in the Mikati government, still works for him just like Nazarian did in the previous Salam government.
24/7 power is easily achieved by first enacting net-metering by requiring dual counters at homes with PV so no batteries are needed (consumers pay difference between generated and used power, solar power peaks when demand is highest for AC use); second, provide research money on renewable to all major universities (team up with start-ups); third enact 20% subsidy for renewable energy so for every Watt subsidized 4 Watts are generated by private sector quadrupling supply; fourth, create fast-charging network for EV cars with smart chips so EV batteries are part of the grid optimizing storage and peak usage. Since EV cars will soon dominate car market and useful EV battery life is 8 years with 50% residual power, integrating recycled EV batteries into the grid will insure 24/7 efficient power supply and in 20 years Lebanon power for homes, businesses and cars can be 100% from renewable. This creates thousands of technical jobs and reduce pollution and imported oil.
