Report: Hizbullah Pressuring Officials to Invite Syria to AESD Summit

As Lebanon continues to invite Arab leaders to the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit it hosts in January, Hizbullah party has reportedly been “pressuring President Michel Aoun into inviting Syria” to the summit, the Kuwaiti Asseyasah daily reported on Wednesday.

The daily said some Lebanese “political forces allied to Damascus and led by Hizbullah began a pressure campaign to urge Aoun to invite the Syrian regime to attend the summit,” said the daily.

Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and a number of political forces have rejected the matter it added, arguing that Lebanon must abide by the decisions of the Arab League which suspended Syria’s membership back in 2011 over its failure to end government crackdown on protests.

The Arab Economic and Social Development Summit will be held in Beirut on January 19-20.

The Arab Economic and Social Development summits are summits of the Arab League, held at the head of state level to address issues of economic and social development among member-states.

Tough luck for the, two days before the limit of prosecution expired. (20 years) We can only Wonder how high he is in the hierarcy of Hezbollah now, and if he Will be expedited.

During the 2006 Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah declared that "If there had been a Muslim to carry out Imam Khomeini's fatwā against the renegade Salman Rushdie, this rabble who insult our Prophet Mohammed in Denmark, Norway and France would not have dared to do so. I am sure there are millions of Muslims who are ready to give their lives to defend our prophet's honour and we have to be ready to do anything for that."
