U.S. Indicts Russian Woman for Interfering in Congress Elections

The U.S. Justice Department indicted a Russian woman Friday for interfering with U.S. elections, the first person to face criminal charges involving the 2018 congressional midterms.

The indictment said Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova is the chief accountant for a broad political interference operation in the St. Petersburg based Internet Research Agency, and had allocated funding for U.S.-directed meddling and influence efforts.

"Today's charges allege that Russian national Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova conspired with others who were part of a Russian influence campaign to interfere with U.S. democracy," said Assistant Attorney General John Demers.
