President Emmanuel Macron declared Friday that France does not want to see Britain's departure from the European Union delayed beyond October 31 now that a divorce agreement has been reached.

"I think the October 31 date should be respected. I don't think that new deadlines should be given. We need to end these negotiations and get on negotiating the future relationship," he said.

The EU cannot extend the deadline except by a unanimous vote. The AFP was going to tell you that, but had to go out for coffee with a fascinating character they met at a bar in Bern.
Macron was not threatening to send the Legion Etrangere to settle things, in a replay of French intervention in 1485 when its troops delivered England into the hands of the Tudors over the fallen Richard III at Bosworth field.
