The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc on Tuesday called for "joining efforts so that Lebanon can continue to be a country that is adhered to its democratic political system in the face of pressures seeking to turn it into a totalitarian (country) controlled by (foreign) hegemony."

In a communiqué issued after its weekly meeting, the bloc condemned "the return to the rhetoric of weapons … rigged elections and stolen (parliamentary) representation," stressing the importance of "pressing forward towards the rise of the State."

The bloc said that "provocative rhetoric" does not serve the country's future, noting that "such rhetoric contributes to deepening the rift among the Lebanese and to the rise of a one-sided, vengeful government."

"The bloc and its allies in the March 14 coalition are still waiting for clear, final answers to their questions from Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati, before taking a final decision" on the issue of joining the new government, the communiqué went on to say.

The conferees also addressed the Lebanese people, stressing their "commitment to unveiling the truth" behind the murder of former premier Rafik Hariri and to "fulfilling justice."
