Tyre Protestors Shout Anti-Bassil Slogans Over Severe Power Rationing
Several residents of Tyre blocked on Sunday the road at the southern coastal city’s entrance to protest electricity cuts but the army later reopened it, the National News Agency reported.
NNA said the residents held a sit-in outside the Electricite du Liban building at the city’s northern entrance and hoisted banners against “the policy of rationing and corruption at the energy ministry.”
The protestors also shouted slogans against Energy Minister Jebran Bassil, asking him to resign, it said.
They warned that they would take escalatory measures after their “symbolic” sit-in, which caused heavy traffic at the city’s entrance, in case their demands were not met.
On January 31, the cabinet tasked a ministerial committee with studying the process of leasing power-generating ships. The committee has held several meetings so far.
Lebanon has been suffering from severe power rationing as Bassil has warned that the situation could get worse if the government doesn’t take quick measures to resolve the crisis.

If we go by what flame thrower said: when irrefutable evidence emerges about bassil being corrupt, then we'll see. until them you're just accusing people you dont like and wish them to fail .......... and if we abide by it both ways, then the comments made will become more objective and analytical (instead of just exchanging insults). The problems remains is that it is hard to produce such evidence in a country like Lebanon because no one is allowed to investigate and if proven any measure to punish the guilty could spark a civil war. Most Lebanese might be educated but we still have tribe-like emotions.

Flamethrower, Bassil's isn't as corrupt as he is incompetent. His policies set back the telecom sector 10 or 15 years (ISP's have a 1 year licence, etc). He has also been the energy minister for how many years now, and the power situation grows worse.
