Palestinian militants fired two rockets at southern Israel on Friday evening, causing neither casualties or damage, an Israeli military spokeswoman told Agence France Presse.

"A rocket landed in the Eshkol Regional Council; there was no damage or injuries reported," she said.

Earlier in the evening, a rocket from Gaza hit an empty field south of the city Ashkelon, according to the Israeli army and police.

In a separate incident, an RPG anti-tank missile was launched at Israeli soldiers near the Gaza-Israel border, damaging the security fence nearby, the military said in a statement.

"Following the soldiers' arrival at the scene, an explosive device was detonated in the Gaza Strip. Israeli soldiers responded by using tank fire," the statement said.

On Thursday morning, six Palestinians were wounded when Israeli planes launched two raids in Gaza. The Israeli military said the raids were carried out after militants fired three rockets at southern Israel on Wednesday evening.

Since the beginning of the year, Palestinian militants have fired some 30 rockets at southern Israel, Israeli army statistics show.

Hamas has maintained a tacit truce with Israel, but other armed groups regularly fire rockets across the border, usually sparking retaliatory air strikes.
