Prime Minister Najib Miqati called on the Lebanese on Thursday to cooperate in order to safeguard the country and overcome all the obstacles facing it.

“The political rhetoric (in Lebanon) remains under the cap of democracy that we hold onto, as the country has always been able to overcome” the obstacles through the unity of its people, Miqati said during the opening ceremony of the Arab Economic Forum at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut.

He stressed on consensus among all parties over state matters to reach salvation.

Miqati stated that the developments across the Arab World put the countries at a crossroad which requires “courage” to avoid chaos that may have negative repercussions on the region.

The premier noted that the cabinet is working on increasing job opportunities and growth, noting that “the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was over 5% in 2011, which is higher than other non-oil producing Arab countries.”

Miqati said that the cabinet is seeking to reform the state institutions to improve public institutions by engaging the private sector’s investments.

“We have recently proposed an integrated plan for economic and social reform that would fortify economic growth,” he added.

Cooperation does not work, this is not how countries are built. Need a strong ISF, army, laws and ability to punish corruption and criminal activities.

MP sami gemayel said it best: it is not this governement thats a failure only, but the previous governements and the next ones. Lets take a look at lebanese history: Maronite were in power, than the sunnis, than the chiites now. Everybody fighting for one authority which is the state. The sects that are out of the governements in making will always turn to outside help to come back to power. The only solution to meet people needs is a partition of the state powers concerning electricity and social needs. Every town gets its own budget and own money for social projects ( roads ,electricity, help, schools etc..) like this, no town has to go beg for the state for money they wont receive cause they are in another political affiliation... The state authority should only have the power to reunite lebanese in case of emergencies or state affairs like wars, elections, foreign policies. This is the only way out.
