Berri Urges Fast Cabinet Formation, Denies Accusations Against Syria
Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on the importance of speeding up the formation of the Lebanese cabinet, denying that Syria rejected efforts to form the new government.
In his remarks to As Safir daily published on Tuesday, Berri said that accusations about the lack of a Syrian green light on the cabinet are not true.
If there is a “negative” impact on the government formation from outside Lebanon, it is surely from the U.S. and the West, he said.
The speaker also accused Washington and its allies of exerting political pressure on Premier-designate Najib Miqati through their constant announcements that their stand concerning the new cabinet will depend on who will participate in it.
As if the U.S. and the West are seeking to know if the new cabinet will adopt the policies of Osama Saad or Bahia Hariri, Berri added.
