Suleiman: Attempts to Interpret Constitutional Explanation on Government Formation Aimed at Thwarting it

President Michel Suleiman stressed on Wednesday that the constitution is clear in defining how governments are formed.

He said: “Attempts to interpret it in another way it are aimed at thwarting the formation, similar to what happened in the formation process of past governments.”

“Maintaining the country’s stability and peace is very important,” he added.

Addressing corruption in Lebanon, the president hoped that given the lack of legal and constitutional accountability among Lebanon’s political class, the civil and youth society should assume the role of holding them accountable for constantly hindering the state’s functioning.

Suleiman accused the political class of corruption and wasting public funds, pointing out their shortcomings in maintaining the country’s unity in the past 20 years.

The president held telephone conversations with Saudi King Abdullah and Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.

He discussed with them bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region.
