President Michel Suleiman stressed on Thursday the importance of Syria’s stability on the economic and security situation in both Syria and Lebanon.

Visitors of the Baabda Palace reported him as expressing a hope that the situation in the Arab state would return to normal in order for it to resume its reform plans.

He voiced his confidence that the Syrian leadership would overcome the instability of recent days that erupted during anti-regime protests.

Earlier on Thursday, the president held talks with Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on the government formation process and other local affairs.

He also met with former French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius.

The meeting focused on bilateral ties, the Middle East peace process, and the various developments in the Arab world.
