Hizbullah Bridging Differences between Suleiman and Aoun

Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Kamel al-Rifai stated on Friday that the government formation process is underway even though Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati is adopting a cautious approach in the matter.

He told Akhbar al-Yawm news agency: “Efforts are being made to overcome the obstacles that were hindering his progress.”

He explained that concessions should be made in order to form the cabinet, noting however that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun is still insisting on acquiring the interior ministry portfolio, which President Michel Suleiman is seeking to maintain.

“An understanding between Suleiman and Aoun must be reached over the interior and defense ministries,” the MP stressed.

Rifai also revealed that Hizbullah is presenting an initiative in order to bridge the gap between the two officials.
