Hariri Rejects Accusations of Arming Syrian Opposition: We Provide Humanitarian, Political Support

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri rejected accusations that the March 14 camp is arming the Syrian opposition, reported the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat on Saturday.

He told the daily: “We provide it with humanitarian and political support.”

“We will help the Syrian people in any way we can,”he declared.

“We will help the Syrian opposition through the media and financial means. We will call on countries to back the Free Syrian Army,” he continued.

He slammed Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zohbi's labeling of the March 14 officials as terrorists, saying that this description fits the Syrian regime.

“We are only performing our popular and humanitarian duties towards the Syrian people,” stressed Hariri.

Head of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammed Raad criticized on Friday the March 14 camp's memorandum to President Michel Suleiman, which he said is aimed at covering up its “aggression” against Syria.

The memo, delivered to the president on Tuesday, calls for the expulsion of the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon, suspension of security agreements with Syria, and filing a complaint to the Arab League over Syria's violations of Lebanon's border.

Commenting on his meeting on Tuesday night in Paris with Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat, Hariri said: “We share bonds of friendship with the MP.”

“We also share common political views in that we believe that the country is passing through a difficult period,” he explained.

“Some sides are fearful that Lebanon could be headed towards a crisis, but I don't think so,” added the former premier.

“We agree with Jumblat on various principles related to the Cedar Revolution and the March 14 camp,” he said.

“We are committed to these principles,” he stressed.

“We enjoy a political strategic relationship with Jumblat and we reached an agreement over the dangers facing Lebanon,” he revealed.

“Direct contact between us will continue, especially since we share a common position on the Syrian revolt,” he stated.

Hariri and Jumblat met for the first time on Tuesday since the toppling of the former prime minster's government in January 2011.

On Wednesday, Jumblat said of the meeting: “Our common struggle with the Hariri family and our political ties transcend current differences.”

thank-you very much sheikh Saad. This isn't easy for you, the Syrian president killed your father, Lebanese terrorists (HA) were the executioners yet you still help the Syrians without holding a grudge against their country. You're an example to all of us.

Even though most of the people in Lebanon are against another civil war. I see it as imminent, some people talk about national unity. Everyone is against everyone, they can never agree on anything. I can't wait till the war comes back. Why are the Lebanese people the most racist Arabs. They have one of the highest literacy rates in the Arab world but sadly it doesn't show. All they care about are materialistic things and buying nice cars. You folks should look at yourselves before you criticize any other country

Hariri is either a liar or just a clueless figurehead who lives inside his PS3.
