Miqati Meets Qahwaji, Throws Weight Behind Army

W300

Prime Minister Najib Miqati threw his weight behind the army on Tuesday, criticizing some politicians for shoving the military institution into political differences that flourish ahead of parliamentary elections.

“The support for the army should be a common denominator because it has proved that it remained at a single distance from everyone and worked for the service of Lebanon and its people without any distinction,” Miqati said during talks with army chief Gen. Jean Qahwaji.

Doubts on the army's role not just harm the institution but the entire nation, Miqati warned during the meeting held at the Grand Serail.

“If the army is using wisdom in resolving security incidents, then this does not mean it is weak or hesitant,” he stressed as he congratulated Qahwaji on the recent measures that the military took in pursuing wanted criminals and those involved in abductions, and in restoring order in areas that have witnessed tensions, mainly the northern city of Tripoli, some neighborhoods in Beirut's southern suburbs and regional towns and villages.

“It would be very wrong to shove the army in political differences that flourish during electoral seasons or by hinting that the army is practicing its responsibilities in a certain region and neglecting other areas,” Miqati warned.

“We have full confidence in the Lebanese army in the missions that it is tasked with carrying out,” he said. “Then any mistake would be resolved within the military institution and by the competent judiciary.”

Miqati also held separate talks with Internal Security Forces chief Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi, congratulating the ISF for thwarting several plots to create security incidents in the country.

“The criticism against the ISF and some of its officers and personnel from time to time should be a motive to make further sacrifices under the law,” he said.

At last the army taking charge! This is good news and I hope it continues. A restructuring of the security branches should be overtakes so that they are all united under one hierarchy and are independent from any political influence. The model of the army should be implemented on all the other security forces! God bless the army...the only national institution that I still have some faith in!

FYI....Iranian Pea-Brain BS....we all care about what geha says. Get it through your empty head that NO ONE cares about ANYTHING YOU say! Your an Iranian dirt-bag who is desperate to voice a pro-shaitan view on this site and it will never happen. We despise your beloved lords (Iran/HA/Syria) and you can take your two cents worth elsewhere. And yeah...go ahead and play your games with fabricated aliases to self-stimulate yourself.....pathetic!

brother geha, I wish you would respect the Army and understand its difficult situation. It is doing the best it can. Unless you put yourself in its shoes, you couldn't possibly understand.

Praised be FT! Behold the sanctimonious BS that comes from a person who advocates the shooting of M14 supporters in the head and dissolving them in acid. You should go look in the mirror; if you still have an urge to spew your hate and double standards afterwards, then put a sock in it because we’re not buying it. You are the No 1 hypocrite here and you have pledged your allegiance to a man who is now allied with the same regime that humiliated him and chased him out of b3abda with his tail tucked between his legs. You leader is a coward and a denier that the regime he is bowing to, is holding Lebanese prisoners without due process. If you had an ounce of morality and ethics you wouldn't even spew your filth here. I pity you and I feel sorry for those who have to interact with you on a daily basis. You are a warped, decaying, soulless ghoul
