Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun noted on Tuesday that it appears that there is no intention to form a new government in Lebanon because the reasons attributed to the delay in its formation “are not binding.”

He rejected after the movement’s weekly meeting the violation of the constitution by any side regarding the formation process and distribution of portfolios, especially the Interior Ministry.

“I am not disputed with anyone over the Interior Ministry, but I have the largest parliamentary bloc and I want the Interior Ministry,” he said.

“Why am I not entitled to a sovereign portfolio?” he asked.

“Whoever does not follow through with the formation of the government has no intention to form it,” the MP noted.

Aoun added: “Whoever is awaiting regional developments to unfold does not want the cabinet to be established.”

Addressing President Michel Suleiman’s statements from Bkirki on Sunday, he stated: “Let them explain the constitution to us and tell us what the president’s share should be.”

“I will target anyone who talks of the constitution without properly citing it,” he added.

“The new government cannot be rejected if it fairly distributes portfolios,” Aoun stressed.

Suleiman had announced on Sunday that the constitution does not stipulate granting specific shares to any side.
