Speaker Nabih Berri demanded on Tuesday that the investigation into alleged Lebanese meddling in Syrian affairs should be conducted in a legal framework.

He said during a ceremony commemorating poet Najib Jamaledddine: ““All Lebanese should be keener on Syria’s security and stability than the Syrians themselves.”

“The stability of the Syrian regime is necessary for the Middle East and Lebanon,” he added.

“Attempting to create strife in Syria will set the whole region on fire,” he stated.

The speaker continued: “We are certain that the Syrian leadership is keen on Lebanon’s safety and whoever says that the developments in Syria are causing the delay in the government formation should know that Syria will be harmed by the delay before Lebanon is.”

Addressing the situation in Lebanon, Berri called for ending the division between the March 8 and 14 camps and forming a wide national front that can help establish a state that abides by the Taef agreement and end sectarianism.

Furthermore, he urged the need to end the suspicions surrounding the possession of arms in Lebanon and instead recognize the Resistance’s achievements.

“No one defended the South until the Resistance was formed,” he noted.

Regarding the construction violations in various locations in Lebanon, the speaker said that the past governments that allowed such violations to take place should be held accountable for the current reality in Lebanon.
