Phalange Party Urges 'Salvation Govt.' to Protect Lebanon from Region Crises

The Phalange Party on Monday called on the country's political leaders to “rise above narrow calculations and shoulder the responsibility of forming a salvation government,” reiterating its call for the resignation of the government.

"The difficult period the country is going through requires a brave posture at all levels, especially at the level of the government,” the party said in a statement issued after the weekly meeting of its political bureau.

“The government has once again proved its inability to oversee the security situation, which poses a threat to the country and its citizens,” the party warned.

And as it called on Prime Minister Najib Miqati's government to step down, the Phalange Party urged the country's political leaders to “rise above narrow calculations and shoulder the responsibility of forming a salvation government that would assume a single mission: rescuing Lebanon.”

The party said any new government must endorse the Baabda Declaration as its ministerial Policy Statement.

Such a government “would be able to control security; stop the bloodshed and assassinations; immunize the country from the repercussions of the region's crises; protect the border; mobilize the military and security institutions; activate administration; and revitalize the economy,” said the statement.

The party also lauded “the role played by President Michel Suleiman to create the appropriate national environment for forming a new government that can take control of the political, security, financial and social situations.”

Missing phillipo over 11 years

Is there no way that President Suleiman can install a non politician to head a government of technocrats and experts, for a period of at least a year, in order to try and get Lebanon back on its feet.
During that time they'll get the political leaders to talk to each other in order to establish a way forward. Each politician who doesn't want to sign on will find that he is out in the political wilderness, and we all know that none of them will like that.
