EU Urges 'Proportionate' Israeli Response in Gaza

W300

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said Friday that Israel had the right to protect its people against Gaza rocket attacks but urged it to stick to a "proportionate" response.

Deploring the loss of civilian lives on both sides, Ashton said in a statement that "the rocket attacks by Hamas and other factions in Gaza which began this current crisis are totally unacceptable for any government and must stop."

"Israel has the right to protect its population from these kinds of attacks. I urge Israel to ensure that its response is proportionate," she added.

Ashton said she had spoken to leaders in the region to stress the need to prevent more escalation and loss of life.

She also voiced hopes that Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil, who visited Gaza amid Israel's massive military campaign, "will be able to calm the situation."

Israeli warplanes carried out relentless sorties over the Gaza Strip while Palestinian militants fired more rockets into the Jewish state.

The escalating conflict has drawn expressions of deep concern internationally and sparked anger in the Arab and Muslim world.

What is the proportionate response for Israel taking 90% of Palestinian lands?

What is the proportionate response for Israel deliberately reducing food shipments into Gaza to starve the Palestinian population?

The EU is just another American lap dog. They hide behind American power reaping their profits while feigning integrity.

"What is the proportionate response for Israel taking 90% of Palestinian lands?"
How about not Palestinians lands, but lands released from Jordanian and Egyptian occupation between 1948 and 1967.

"What is the proportionate response for Israel deliberately reducing food shipments into Gaza to starve the Palestinian population?"
If Israel is the enemy, why expect them to send in food shipments.
They send in hundreds of lorries per day through Kerem Shalom Crossing. How many go in everyday through Rafah Crossing?

Try again phillipo. Israeli propaganda has been shown to be a farce backed by lies and distortion.

The facts I have posted are unassailable ... that you try to repeat Zionist fabrications reveals you.

As many times as your assertions have been shown to be lies I will not engage you further.

Why did frangieh accept the kissinger plan, in the 70s to repatriate palestinians in Lebanon who insolently killed Christian Lebanese in their country...They were surprised to know that their plan failed, and the Christians are still in Lebanon, whether US likes it or not...

mmckini - so what are you trying to say.
That the West Bank and Gaza were not occupied by Jordan and Egypt between 1948 - 1967? Have a look in your old atlases.
That there WERE demonstrations in the West Bank and Gaza between 1948-1967 demanding an independent state for the Palestinian people? Show one single source for this.
So no food is getting into Gaza on trailers from Israel? So why is it than only a month ago the Hamas leadership complained that they wanted 3-4 times as many.
None of the above is "Zionist fabrications".
Naturally you won't engage me further as you see that someone who does not even live in the Middle East knows Middle East history even better than you do.
