Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun after the weekly meeting of the Change and Reform bloc: I said in the past that the accumulation of refugees on the Lebanese border confirms that they are not all refugees and this poses a threat, especially if they are fighters taking part in the war in Syria. Everyone knows that the issue of asylum starts with individuals asking you for help and ends with them mutineering against you. over 11 years

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun on Tuesday warned that “the accumulation of refugees” on Lebanon's border with Syria “poses a threat” to the country, adding that President Michel Suleiman must ask the Army Command about "its ability to defend the borders so that we come up with a vision for the defense strategy."

“I said in the past that the accumulation of refugees on the Lebanese border confirms that they are not all refugees and this poses a threat, especially if they are fighters taking part in the war in Syria,” Aoun warned after the weekly meeting of the Change and Reform bloc in Rabiyeh.

“Everyone knows that the issue of asylum starts with individuals asking you for help and ends with them mutineering against you,” he added.

The FPM leader cautioned that “this issue has become very dangerous because they are spread across all areas,” calling on the government to “publish the numbers and oversee residency across Lebanon.”

“No one knows the numbers and this is unacceptable. It is unacceptable that the director of army intelligence, the Intelligence Bureau, the General Security, the State Security, municipalities and mayors don't know anything about the numbers,” Aoun said.

“They should clarify the numbers within 15 days and we will not remain silent,” he stressed.

In response to a reporter's question, Aoun said “the entire region poses a threat to Lebanon and unity can protect Lebanon.”

“The threat comes from outside and the issue of the Syrian refugees reflects massive negligence,” he added.

Criticizing the speech delivered by Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel on the sixth anniversary of the assassination of his son, minister Pierre Gemayel, Aoun said: “We heard a speech saying 'we don't accept half a sovereignty and a quarter of dignity,' but what do you want? The Lebanese army? We want the army as well.”

“We call on the president to ask the Army Command about its ability to defend the borders so that we come up with a vision for the defense strategy and end the political debate,” he added.

On Sunday, Gemayel said: “I will repeat Pierre's words: We will not accept half a dignity, but rather full dignity. We will not accept an incomplete authority for the army, as the army must extend its authority over the 10,452 square kilometers.”

Separately, Aoun told reporters that no one is preventing citizens from “practicing their sovereignty on the ground.”

“There are border regions that don't enjoy sovereignty. There are no security zones and those who committed violations on the airport road were arrested and put in jail,” he noted.

Asked about Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea's latest remarks on boycotting the national dialogue table, Aoun said sarcastically: “I'm seeking a Nobel Peace Prize for Dr. Samir Geagea and he's classifying me as a criminal. What a shame. I don't accept that.”

On my flight to Dubai with Emirates airlines I was accidently seated next to a well known politic gentelman from 8M.
We had a friendly conversation for about an hour an a half then suddenly he went angry.
The conversation went like this at the end: me: What exactly you wanna do with Lebanon if you won the election? What are your plans for the economy and to make an original country with no war to pull more tourists?
Him: 14 M did nothing to the country they went corrupted... he wanted to continue but I cut him that this is not the question its about 8M plans for the future.
He was very angry and he said the converstion is done pls dont talk to me anymore.
I was called by the hostess to be reseated somewhere else.
My conclusion that 8M had no plan for the future they just want to keep unstability in Lebanon being in war with Israel and other country especially the gulf.

phil
you are missing the point: he is not bashar ally, he is his lackey :)
this guy and his followers are noticing each day where their alliances are leading them and how the Christians are seeing through them, and their false promises of reform while they are more corrupt than anyone else.
they are doomed and they know it. they are trying to cling on to this cabinet trying to steal as much as possible before they are kicked out.

god bless aoun for his continuous stupidity,he is absolutlely blind in reading the area geopolitics,it is a war between the arabs and the farsis over the ceasfire in gaza, and the farsis are losing because an america/european/arab ceasfire is coming,
he is repeating the same strategic mistakes of allying with america at the WRONG TIME,SADDAM HUSEIN AND NOW HE IS STILL NOT SEEING BASHAR DESAPPEARING AND THE FARSIS FOLLOWING,i pity his followers heading directly to another wave of immigration like 1989...but where???

Congrats on the good work:
Gebran Bassil Minister of Power: CRAP!
Charbel Nahas Minister of Telecommunications: Even Worse!
Abraham Dadayan Minister of Industry: Our worst year in decades!
Fadi Aboud Minister of Tourism: Also, worst year in decades!
He always has someone or something to blame...it's amazing...
You eitherstop blaming all the others and take critics, or you resign!
Too bad Michel Aoun did not get the chair, he would have lost all his supporters by now...

Dear GOD what have we come to! These are the words of a great leader? Attacking the words comemorating a fallen hero? rather than working on strengthening the army, stand up in public and belittle it? What patriotism! everyone that beleives in this man must so proud.

I was a big supporter of Aoun. I was humiliated, beaten-up, and arrested for him. I waisted 2 years of college going in and out of jail and sometimes spent more time at army intelligence than at university. For what? Now I don't hate him. I let go. I let God. I'm the one who was stupid. But every time he speaks this nonsense I get so disgusted with myself; it reminds me of stupid choices when I was young and stupid.

no need to beat yourself up. you are an idealist, and followed him when you thought he was a good person.
you are an intelligent person as you realized how fake he is, unlike some of his sheep still on this site, who still follow him blindly refusing to see the truth, while he is stealing their money on a daily basis, making them poorer with a bas quality of life, no electricity, supporting a bunch of thugs that want to drive all Lebanese out.
no my friend you are intelligent and can be proud of yourself.

I liked him back in 89. He bombed my neighborhood in Beirut because there were Syrian positions 100m away from my home. We thought he was doing the right thing, yet he fled like Arafat did before him.... He came back rotten.

Although this is my first time commenting, I make it a daily habbit to read everyone's comments. But today, I feel I have to let you know that your comment gives me hope! It is not very often that people, especially Lebanese, are able to admit any kind of mistake. Our past choices are just stepping stones to where we are today but do not define who we are. I hope more Lebanese will have the courage to do the same.

Guys of 8M!! did you really forgot what Hafez and bachar did to our country? You dont want to remember or you really forgot? They tortured people of Lebanon just for tearing a poster picture of Hafez (Just a smal example)... Now Mr Big Orange he loves them?? What a pitty.. I have no comments anymore god help you guys.

I used to support Aoun too. Even helped raise mony for him...money still in his bank accounts most certainly...

I agree with Aoun's statements regarding the danger in not knowing how many refugees are here and whether some of them are fighters staging fights from Lebanese territory.
However I disagree with what he told the reporter" Separately, Aoun told reporters that no one is preventing citizens from “practicing their sovereignty on the ground.” ..... Citizend do not practice sovereignty, Governments do. Citizens practice their rights and pay the dues to the State.

"We Urge President to Ask Army about its Defense Capacity" Ya traitor you clearly know what the Army's capacity is....simply ask your boss Sayyed!

This moron is simply a comic relief. Can't even beleive anyone would waste time to even consider his words as news with any substance.

Zable ya habli....get your head out of your rear and get your facts right. If you are referring to Harriri...I don't think one constitutes 'hiding' in Paris when he is seen all over the city in restaurants and social events with high-end government officials. What does constitute HIDING is your scum leader jumping from one cave to another and only restaurant he attends it the one on dirt floors eating with his dirty hands and feet!

"You let them in to grant them asylum, and then they mutiny against you." Erm, and what exactly did YOU do after you were granted the right to return to Lebanon based on your confrontationalism of Syria, may I politely ask?
