First Power-Generating Vessel to Arrive in April after Long Delay
Lebanon met the required costs to Turkish power company Karadeniz after a long delay, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Thursday, pointing out that the first power-generating vessel is expected to arrive in April.
According to the daily, the Finance Ministry transferred the money to Electricite du Liban on November 7, which in turn transferred the cost of acquiring the two ships to the Turkish company on Wednesday after procedures with the Central Bank ended.
The newspaper said that the second ship would arrive in June.
Energy Minister Jebran Bassil announced in November that the arrival of the power-generating ships to Lebanon from Turkey has been delayed after the government failed to provide the costs.
The minister had signed in July a three-year contract to lease the vessels from Karadeniz company.
The first ship was expected to arrive in Lebanon on November 11.
The cabinet had agreed in March to lease power-generating vessels that would help provide 700 megawatts of electricity for a period of three years.
Lebanon has long suffered from electricity outages because of shortages at its power plants whose maximum capacity is less than 1,500 megawatts but the country’s actual need exceeds 2,300 megawatts.

ahh yes... finally someone told baby-in-law how to do his job...
fpm should pay the cost of these delays to the Lebanese people.
Go put on your wedding dress and cry with your boyfriend you communist.
Like I predicted, he will try to bring in time for summer and show everyone his 'success' for the upcoming elections. Unfortunately, there are too many fools in this country that will give him credit.
This one and virtual friends work for FPM. gun him down with your red pens!
April??... As in April fools day?? -_-
On the bright side, at least the gov has a good sense of humor... As a citizen, I'm just tired of being the butt of every joke.
The Finance Ministry sent the money. This article implies that the hold up was with the "Central Bank". The French Energy company delayed the transfer accordingly. This might have been political in some way but won't one of you idiots tell me why this is not a good thing for Lebanon so why shouldn't Bassil be congratulated for getting the deal done in the first place. Most of you seem to prefer the M14 way which invloves coruption, criminality but stasis. You can't wait for Harrai to come back from France and share some of the money that the House of Saud gave him. Maybe this decade ? Don't hold your breath.
jajajajajaja, It was scheduled for November.... 2011 ay que bueno. We're having a good time with our incompetent energy minister. So, it's not scheduled for April 1st.... hhhhhmmmmm Sounds promising <*)))><
