Aoun: Suleiman has No Right to Demand Any Portfolio

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun announced on Saturday that President Michel Suleiman “does not have the right to demand any government portfolio because he was elected as a neutral figure … which is a joke as there is no such thing in any country.

He added that the president does not even have a share in parliament.

“After the settlement of the dispute over the Interior Ministry, they now want to take over other Maronite ministries in order to prevent the FPM from acquiring them,” he continued.

Aoun accused Suleiman of seeking to marginalize the FPM and its leader.

“When we finally ended the Interior Ministry dispute, he demanded to obtain another Maronite minister,” he said.

“Suleiman was elected because he does not have any MPs,” he noted.

“Upon his election, they strived to grant him a centrist parliamentary bloc, but in a strictly Christian area … he has now become a side in Lebanon’s political dispute,” Aoun stressed.
