Jumblat Says Reconciliation Ceremony to be Held after 'Brih Wounds' were Healed
Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat revealed on Friday that the reconciliation in the Mountains was complete after the end of violations against Christian properties in a mixed village in the Shouf district.
“We will hold a reconciliation ceremony under the auspices of the (Maronite) patriarch and the president after the wound of the town of Brih healed following the end of violations against the properties of Christians,” Jumblat told reporters in Bkirki.
“When Patriarch (Beshara) al-Rahi visited the Shouf last summer, we promised him to work on healing the old wound caused by the painful events in the Mountains,” he said.
“With the end of violations against the land of the Christians in Brih, we put a closure to all the pain of the war in the Mountains,” he told reporters following talks with the head of the Maronite church.
During his visit to the Shouf in September, al-Rahi and Jumblat agreed to exert efforts to complete the reconciliation in the Mountains that the former head of the church, Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir, started in 2001.
At the time al-Rahi lauded the efforts exerted by the PSP chief for the return of the displaced to the Mountains, while Jumblat said the reconciliation would be complete only when the wound of the mixed Christian and Druze village heals.
Following his visit to al-Rahi in Bkirki on Friday, the Druze leader reiterated the importance of dialogue among Lebanon's bickering parties.
“There is no way but to meet and (hold) dialogue,” he said.

Maybe because the Government failed to protect the Christians who were already being slaughtered by the PSP and their Palestinian allies ever since 1976? I speak from living through it and suffering greatly from such violations.

I find it strange that one man can declare reconciliation is complete. I think you should ask the victims if it is so and if they have forgiven the perpetrators and ask the perpetrators if they truly regret their deeds. Otherwise it is a political maneuver no more and no less. Forgiveness is a virtue but it must come from the victims.

whats the details of the brih-story, what happened there and until when was this violation of property? also I would like to know if there are enough christians left in the mountain to populate these areas..

some of you are unwilling to let go of war and you keep on bringing it back in whatever way you think it is right. As long as you have this mentality, Lebanon will never see peace. The maronites are still hurt of what happened to them which is understandable, but also think of the root cause of the problem and why it happened. Once you can see it both ways, them I will say you are on the right path. LF had done a lot of damage when they showed up behind the yahood and massacred a lot of civilians- if you don't know this, then you have a problem and will never be able to sustain a reasonable discussion on the issue... Move on and look ahead is all I can say to you.

to THE1PHOENIX-What happened in the mountains was the sole responsibility of 1 person; Bashir Al Jameel and his stupid advisors. Did you every ask yourself why did the massacress happen against the Chrisitains in 1983 not 1982 or 1981 or 1980? It was because he sent the Lebanese Forces militias who spared not time in insulting, killing, murdering and raping Druze women. Be objective. Bashir didn't get along w/other Maronites like Tony Franjieh and Dany Chamoun,do you expect him to get along with the Druze? Look at his accomplishments, Ehden massacres, Safra massacres, sending LF to Shouf that resulted in disaplacement of 300,000 Christians in 1983(after he died), and defeat in East Sidon when Ja3ja3 was there.
