Hariri Urges End to 'Incitement' against Arsal, Calls on Residents to Cooperate with Army

W300

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri urged on Monday the residents of the Bekaa town of Arsal to cooperate with the Lebanese army for “justice to take its course”, demanding an “end to incitement at the expense of the martyrs”.

"We condemn all attempts taking advantage of the martyrs and of the incident for political gains,” Hariri said in a released statement.

He stressed that the the people of Arsal are “under the authority of the state and its judicial bodies”.

"Anyone trying to say otherwise is seeking strife among the Lebanese,” the former PM remarked.

Hariri said that President Michel Suleiman's role is “essential for justice to take its course and to preserve the military institution's image”.

He expressed: “The legal system is the only route through which justice in the case of the martyrs can be reached”.

The army arrested several residents of Arsal on Saturday a day after two soldiers were killed when gunmen ambushed a military patrol, the National News Agency reported.

An army communique had said Friday that a patrol was ambushed by Arsal gunmen as it was hunting a man wanted for several terrorist acts.

The clashes that ensued left an officer with the rank of captain, Pierre Bashaalani, and Sergeant Ibrahim Zahraman dead, and several military personnel wounded.

one wonders why doesnt naharnet publish the statements made by the likes of daher, mer3bi and the other M14's northerly scum regarding this matter??

at least this guy still tries to position himself as a moderate ( stress the word tries), it's by listening to the speeches of his other subordinates that the true colors of the future bloc become apparent!!

fakhamto and kahwaji will give justice to everybody,it is like a trap for both the army and the honest people of arsal who already have 3000 officers and soldiers in the lebanese army.

Saadoon has no clue! First he buys the violent clans, then he gives them cover from the law. He can not have it both ways, he is either with the Lebanese army or he is with these terrorists.

He is a moderate and that shows in all his positions and actions. The Harriri's have transformed the Sunni main stream from a radical sect (pre and during the civil war) lacking in their Lebanese affiliation to a moderate sect interested in the rise of the state. Does he have other shortcomings? of course he does like most of our politicians, but I like where he stands on the main issues.

What are you talking about? Who are you talking about? A fictional character? Grendizer? So the "Sunni mainstream" was a radical sect pre and during the civil war! My friend, you are better off writing poetry about the main issues and where this good-for-nothing spoiled brat stands on these issues.

Hariri's latest comments have been wise. He is preparing for elections and he will win if he continues this way. Crafty!
