Reports: STL Indictment in Few Weeks, Canadian Investigator Leaked Document to CBC

W300

The indictment in the probe into the 2005 killing of former Premier Rafik Hariri will be issued later in the month or in early July, a judicial source at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon said.

The source told al-Liwaa newspaper published Monday that the indictment will be issued between June 20 and July 5. He did not give further details.

STL Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare filed an amended indictment last month based on further evidence in the investigation into Hariri’s murder.

The indictment, which is being kept confidential, has to be examined by Pre-trial Judge Daniel Fransen, who has the responsibility of confirming it before arrest warrants or summonses are issued.

The news came amid another report by al-Akhbar newspaper that a Canadian investigator was responsible for leaking a document on Hariri’s case to the Canadian broadcaster CBC.

CBC aired a documentary in November last year citing unidentified sources saying that U.N. investigators had evidence that "points overwhelmingly" to the involvement of Hizbullah members and possibly Lebanon's head of police intelligence Colonel Wissam Hassan in Hariri’s assassination.

Al-Akhbar said that the investigator felt treason when Bellemare, who is also Canadian, decided to replace him with another investigator from another nationality in March 2009.

The man leaked the document to CBC to avenge the STL prosecutor’s move, the newspaper added.

Phenicien,

What is it about aoun and hezballah's policies that appeal to you?

Default-user-icon Le Phenicien (Guest) almost 13 years

@ ROMAN ,
I can give lots of answers to your question , but I will give only ONE , that should convince you , if you are a free person not a slave to Hariri & co .

Aoun and HEZB fight corruption , and they both have clean hands , not involved in the huge debts of 65 billion US + another 5O billion US that has strangely disappeared from treasury .. !!!!

Is that answer enough for you ?

Default-user-icon Roman (Guest) almost 13 years

Phenicien, your answer is flawed. Let's talk about corruption. You seem like you understand economics so tell me how Lebanon racked up huge debts, starting with

1) who doesn't pay taxes or any utility bills
2) how is aoun funding himself
3) why do you think Lebanon has such a huge deficit
4) given Lebanon's GDP is no way near usd50 billion, let alone the income the economy generates, I'm not sure what younger referring to.

I'd appreciate answers to mother questions, unless you have none.

To Roman and Le Phenicien,

We are all well aware of the corruption, unpaid utilities, funding of organizations from illegal telecom (VOIP) ect....

I urge the Lebanese to step out from this circle of following leaders that are only interested in power and not the people. If we keep on supporting the Berris, Hariri, Aouns, Hizb Alah and the rest we will never finish.

I am disgusted with Lebanon as poverty is increasing drastically.

Dont you both feel like its time to root for a new body that will only focus on the people and developing the gov institutions.

Regards,

UCF

I agree with UCF, it is time to let all this leaders go and vote for those who really shows any concern for Lebanon and its people.
Use the power of vote.
Stop personal sectarism

Phenicien you keep repeating what you hear from that populist cunt call Aoun and can't seem to think on your own. The only things cretins like you who support Aoun have in common is the hatred you have for the people who have rebuilt your country.
People you support have only managed to wage war and destruction on the country. You are like parasytes and you live on the blood of the others. You cannot understand how people have successfully managed to rebuild Beirut and bring life back to the city. You are probably a failure-or you will be as you are probably very young. Get a life before it is too late!

Well you the problem is that you think that because I dislike Aoun's rethoric I must be full of love for Geagea.
I care even less for Geagea and I am not interested in people. All I look at from a politician is his program-or lack of it in the case of Aoun- and his actions-and here in both cases, Aoun and Geagea I will never forgive them for getting into a war with each others at the expense of the people.
To Geagea credit, he asked for forgiveness and apologised.
The other one didn't. A lot of people I knew fought the Syrians at the time when Aoun asked them to. Some of them died, others are maybe in prison there. Aoun sucks up to Bashar now. How can you trust him? What if your brother was tortured in Mazze?
