Phalange Party Rejects One-Sided Cabinet, Urges Tighter Border Control

W300

The Phalange Party on Monday said the current situations in Lebanon and the region require an “extraordinary cabinet” and called for immunizing Lebanon's borders against infiltrations and violations.

“The Phalange Party warns against turning Lebanon into an open arena for fundamentalist groups and voices concern over possible new attacks similar to the Dahieh bombing,” the party's political bureau said in a statement issued after its weekly meeting.

The party “sees in the incident a security alert that might be the beginning of a series of bomb attacks … and this can only be confronted through the endorsement by all political forces of the Baabda Declaration … and through forming a competent cabinet that is immunized by a broad political consensus,” said the statement.

“The current situation does not bear neither a one-sided cabinet nor on ordinary cabinet and the aforementioned circumstances must be taken into consideration to form an extraordinary, competent cabinet whose line-up would respect the political weights of all parties, in order to confront the extraordinary situations in Lebanon and the region,” the statement added.

The party called for “complementing the presidential statement issued by the U.N. Security Council through seeking to continue the implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 and to protect Lebanon from the political and security blaze that is engulfing Syria and the region.”

The conferees also called for “protecting the Lebanese borders and turning them into a secure area that is immune to any violations and infiltrations -- whichever side they may came from and in any direction.”

The party reiterated its support for the military institution and called for “keeping the army out of the political debate.”

Logical pragmatic position from a Lebanon loving party. I congratulate the kataeb for independent thinking and for seeing shades of grey.

Yes but I wish they would advocate also for the Technocrat Cabinet.

Chopper. We all would love a cabinet of techies who do their work and dont do politics. This would be a dream. Notice how well things are run when lebanese technicians run them (central bank, MEA, Liban post...) and how they are screwed up when politicians get in (ogero, EDL...)

Unfortunately, Hezb Iran wants to be in the cabinet, and they have lots of MPs. so we cannot go against their wishes.

We have to be pragmatic. A cabinet with HA is better than no cabinet at all, which is what Hariri wants since he doesnt care, living abroad and making his money abroad.

I agree that Sehnaoui and Bassil did value added, and that Layoun is corrupt.

However, above 2 did not do enough effort to streamline previous administrations efforts and pick up from what was built. For example Bassil did not use the CDR as he should have because it is a "haririst" institution. Sehnaoui should have sat with Abdel menhem youssif of Ogero and solved issues instead of barricading in his postions. (Even though Youssif is a pain in the neck)

It is time for the people to organize and activate grass root efforts by people and organizations of all ethnic background, color and religion to promote charismatic new leaders on a platform that speak one language for all. The short run goal would be to establish this forum aiming towards making a real difference in the future. Doesn't matter if we don't see the intended result today as long as it starts, and we plant the seeds in the minds of the good people in Lebanon.
