The first cabinet meeting is expected to be held during the upcoming week to discuss the major issues on its agenda, al-Liwaa newspaper said on Friday.

“The cabinet will in principle meet on Thursday,” informed sources told the newspaper.

They said that the government is expected to hold two sessions per week, in addition to closed-doors meetings to compensate months of ministerial paralysis.

Among the issues the cabinet is expected to discuss are: The renewal of the Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh’s term, appointing Brig. Gen. Walid Salman Chief of staff in the Lebanese Army as Gen. Shawqi Masri’s successor, in addition to appointing Brig. Abbas Ibrahim as the general director of the General Security Department.

The sources said that the cabinet will also discuss the issue of appointments in security and judicial posts to fill the vacancies.
